To introduce myself in a nutshell, I’m a 35-year-old single mum of a beautiful 3-year-old girl who has been a vegetarian for 20 years, living in Auckland, New Zealand.
Born and raised in England, I left the UK six years ago to embark on the obligatory journey to “find myself." I travelled the USA & Canada for three months before resting my hat in Sydney, Australia for a few years. After giving birth to our beautiful little girl, her kiwi father and I decided to make the move to Auckland so she could spend more time with her family. Shortly after arriving, however, we decided to separate on amicable terms. We now live three minutes apart and our daughter has a wonderful lifestyle.
First and foremost, my primary role in this life is being a mother and role model to my daughter. Being a single mum, she certainly keeps me on my toes and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Being a mum has to be the most rewarding role I have ever had the pleasure to experience.
For my day job, I work full time for a bank as a senior test analyst which I thoroughly enjoy. I’m fortunate enough to work from home which fits in fantastically well with me and my daughter. In the spare time I do have, I love to embrace my creative side and paint abstract art with mixed media, exhibiting on a regular basis through the NZ Art Guild and even make jewellery too! I often have many varied projects on the go.
After many months of hard dedicated study, I also recently became a certified NLP Master Practitioner which I found to be a life changing experience. If that wasn’t enough to keep one person occupied, I’m also embarking on an exciting new venture of establishing a new range of children’s wear. I have no idea how I manage to fit in time to sit down with a cuppa and watch Dr Phil, but I do!
I’ve been a vegetarian for just over 20 years now and consider myself a prime example of how you can be a healthy vegetarian through diet alone. Many people I meet are often surprised when they learn I’m a vegetarian since they expect ‘us’ to be pale and pasty and overdose on supplements. When I was pregnant, I went through the usual standard tests to check my vitamin levels etc . My then meat-eating-partner was shocked to learn I was exceptionally healthy and expected the results to highlight many nutritional deficiencies. Needless to say I was more than happy to dispel that’s myth that being a vegetarian is unhealthy.
I lead a very rewarding, exciting, busy and varied life. I truly believe you can achieve anything you want to in this world, all you need is a dream and passion. You want it, you go out there and get it, that’s what I say.
